Common Ground - 015
Here are some pictures showing the progress of firing the cups and ceremonial pots. For these two pieces I chose a glaze made of 90% clay, 10% wood ash and water. There is still a lot of variety within each group based on the temperature in the kiln, where the piece was during the firing, (the kiln tends to range from cone 9 to cone 12), the amount of “reduction” it experiences during the firing, the thickness of the glaze, and the piece's exposure to wood ash that is blown into the kiln when it is at around 2,300 degrees. Same clay, same glaze, same DNA but a lot of individuality. For the bowls and plates I am still making tests and will decide on their final glaze recipe / ratio soon.
